Citrus Lane is a baby-geared subscription box service. Depending on what plan you choose, it ranges from $19 (annual subscription) – $29 (monthly subscription) per month.
You head to the website, give them your child’s name, birthday and gender, and they hand pick “the best toys and products” for your child’s age. You can check out examples of products that are geared towards your child’s age group, purchase “shower boxes” and even gift subscriptions! My favorite aspect is the “add to box” where you can choose items that will ship for free with your monthly box. I was given a $10 off code when I first signed up to use towards an Add To Box purchase and bought H some stackable cups (that have quickly become his new favorite!) from Green Toys which only ended up costing me $.95 after my coupon!
This October box was my fourth box so far, but I didn’t love it as much as Septembers. This month we were given 2 toys, 1 board book, and a skin care sample along with a note from Citrus Lane that read “We love the new toys we’ve discovered for you this month – something soft and sweet, something for musical play, and a book to help encourage learning and build vocabulary. We know that as the days grow colder, you’re probably going to be spending more time inside, so wanted to share with you some fun things to help keep baby entertained.”
My First Football from North American Bear Co ($15): This is something I was so not impressed with when opening the box – $15 for a soft small football is crazy. However, H loves squishing it and passing it back and forth between his hands and has turned it into a soft teether. As he gets older and more dexterous, I’m thinking H will enjoy passing this back and forth and I’ll like the fact that I won’t have to worry about black eyes! They also sent me a code (CITRUS20) for 20% off $25 or more at nabear.com thru 11/30/14.
Cage Bell from Hohner Kids ($7.50): H is obsessed. It’s loud (like, really really loud) and bright and easy for his little hands to grasp, so I suggest you take a few Advil before giving it to your little, but it’s pretty cute to watch them figure out how to make the bell ring and see their face light up. This is one that will definitely be thrown in the diaper bags and for trips as he played with it for a good 15 minutes today without getting tired of it!
My Big Book of Trucks and Diggers from Chronicle Books ($7.95): Apparently this is what I better start getting used to as a mom of a boy- lots of “digger” books. I like that its a heavy duty hardback book, because that means its less likely to get ripped to shreds by my little tornado, and it has great pictures in a simple format thats easy for H to follow along with. They also sent me a code (CITRUS2014) for 30% off and free shipping at chroniclebooks.com thru 12/31/2014.
Calendula Baby Care from Weleda sample and coupon code: I’ve heard really great things about Calendula as a skin care ingredient from moms who have sensitive skinned and eczema prone kiddos, so I’m excited to try it on H for the upcoming dry weather. They also sent me a code (CALENDULA) for 20% off a purchase at usa.weleda.com thru 11/15/2014
Total value of box: $30.45
Total paid for box: $15
I am legitimately one of the cheapest people on the planet and hate spending money (although it may not seem like it ;)) and even on months that I haven’t loved everything, I’ve always gotten a really great value. I’m planning on keeping some of the toys “hidden” from H for a little while, so that I can start to rotate out what he has now and keep things “fresh” and save a few for Christmas. I also love that I’m getting “green” toys and things that don’t require batteries and make obnoxious noises. Although I was not overly impressed with this months items, H seems to be obsessed with the crazy loud bell toy and chews on the football like crazy so I would give Octobers box a 8/10 if asked.
